FDIC 2014 Show Highlights & New Flashlights
FoxFury
FoxFury debuted two new products at the 2014 FDIC – a rechargeable version of their right angle Breakthrough BT2 and BT3 flashlights and a new 14,000 lumen scene light called the Nomad Transformer. The rechargeable BT2 and BT3 package adds even more versatility to the line. Lumen ratings and performance specs have stayed the same for each model. The BT2 is rated at 200 lumens with a 3 hour run time while the BT3 is rated at 600 lumens with a 2 hour run time. The included Breakthrough door wedge has also been redesigned. It is now made of a softer rubber material with added grips that will perform better in wet environments and with a variety of different door types.
The Nomad Transformer is the largest of FoxFury’s Nomad series. It produces an incredible 14,000 lumens and extends over 12 feet tall. The Nomad Transformer consists of three separate pieces; the battery pack, the extendable tripod, and the light head. The light head can be mounted directly to the rechargeable battery pack or it can be mounted to an extendable arm to raise it over 12 feet in the air.
Streamlight
The new product release from Streamlight that drew the most attention at the 2014 FDIC show was the Portable Scene Light (PSL). The Scene light produces an amazing 3600 lumens in high with a 5 hour run time. It features a total of 3 brightness levels with two different selectable beam angles. In addition to the 5 hour run time you get in high on the rechargeable sealed lead acid battery, you can run it indefinitely on AC or DC power – a must if you are working in the field. The Streamlight Portable Scene Light extends up to 6 feet and has a 90 degree swivel head to aim the light where you need it. And the greatest thing about the Scene light is that it deploys in under 30 seconds! The Streamlight Portable Scene Light will be available in June 2014.
Streamlight also introduced upgrades to their PolyTac LED and PolyTac LED HP flashlights. The brightness is getting a big bump from 170 up to 275 lumens – over a 60% increase in brightness – and the body has been totally redesigned. The grips have been improved to give you a more secure hold on the light, and the pocket clip has been extended. One of the best new features of the upgraded PolyTac LED lights is that they now feature Streamlight’s patented TEN-TAP programmable system – you can choose between high/strobe/low, high only, or low/high function sets. The updated lights will be available in May 2014.
Pelican
Flashlight and case manufacturer Pelican introduced two new scene lights to their popular RALS Remote Area Lighting System line – the Pelican 9480 and Pelican 9490. The 9480 is a compact portable area light that will produce 4000 lumens in high, 2000 lumens in medium, and 1000 lumens in low. The extendable head features 8 LEDs with a beam spread of 125° and will extend up to 2 feet high. The Pelican 9490 RALS is slightly larger than the 9480 and produces up to 6000 lumens. Instead of having defined brightness levels, the 9490 will feature a variable control system similar to the Pelican 9460 RALS with user-defined brightness and run time settings. The head of the 9490 features 10 LEDs and can extend up to six feet high.
One of the best things about the Pelican 9480 and 9490 area lights is that they have swappable sealed lead acid battery packs. The battery can easily be removed from the light using the integrated handle and swapped out for a fully charged battery. Both the Pelican 9480 and 9480 lights use the same 12V Rechargeable Sealed Lead Acid battery. Both models are expected to be available in summer 2014.
Pelican also debuted two new small aluminum flashlights at the show – the Pelican 7000 and Pelican 2380R flashlights. The Pelican 7000 flashlight is a high powered 613 lumen tactical light that runs on two CR123 lithium batteries. It will have a total of three brightness levels plus strobe and will run for 1.5 hours in high, 2.5 hours in medium, and up to 10 hours in low.
The Pelican 2380R is an adjustable focus, USB rechargeable flashlight that produces 305 lumens in high and 30 lumens in low. It is powered by an included 3.7V lithium-ion rechargeable battery and will run for 3.5 hours in high and 25 hours in low. The battery can be recharged inside the flashlight with the included USB cord. Pull the bezel forward for a spot beam pattern or push the bezel backwards to produce a flood (wide) beam pattern.
Bright Star
The biggest news from Bright Star Lighting is the new Lighthawk Vision 600 LED lantern and the Lighthawk LED Gen II update. The Lighthawk Vision is a powerful 600 lumen lantern powered by a lightweight rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It will run for up to 6.25 hours and has an integrated low battery indicator. The Lighthawk Vision 600 also features four LED tail lights for added visibility from behind. At just 1.9 lbs with the battery, the Bright Star Lighthawk Vision 600 is one of the lightest lanterns available on the market today. And best of all, it’s made in the USA!
The LED Lighthawk Gen II was also debuted at the FDIC show. The Lighthawk LED Gen II will produce 225 lumens in high and 100 lunens in low. It will have a much longer beam range than the Lighthawk Vision 600, shining up to 1,466 feet (447 meters). The Lighthawk Gen II also runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It will run for up to 8 hours in high and 16 hours in low per charge.
