New Princeton Tec Vizz Headlamp Review
Flashlight manufacturer Princeton Tec will soon be releasing a new model to their lineup – the Princeton Tec Vizz headlamp. This American made headlamp has some very useful functionality that lets you access each of its three main modes easily. You can choose whether you want a high power spot beam, dimmable area lighting, or a red output all using the same button. Let’s break it down:
Princeton Tec Vizz Headlamp
Output: 150 lumens high
Run Time: 110 hours high (unregulated)
Max beam distance: 295 feet (90 meters)
Battery Type: 3 AAA, alkaline or lithium
Output Color: White and red
MSRP: $49.99
The Princeton Tec Vizz headlamp is very easy to operate. A single press of the button activates the 2 red LEDs. A double press activates the Maxbright white LED. Holding the button will activate the dimmable Ultrabright white LEDs, which start in the lowest setting and get brighter. A triple press of the button locks you out of all modes, preventing the headlamp from accidentally turning on.

Another cool feature of the Princeton Tec Vizz headlamp is that the translucent switch acts as a low battery indicator. This can save you a lot of time and frustration on the trail. The Vizz is waterproof, rated to the IPX7 standard (under 1 meter of water for 30 minutes), so it makes a great camping or backpacking light. The Vizz is also compatible with AAA lithium batteries, which is a big bonus. The lithium batteries have a 10 year shelf life, and you don’t have to worry about them corroding in your flashlight like you do with alkalines. The lithium batteries also perform better in cold weather.
Overall, the Princeton Tec Vizz looks like it will be a great general use headlamp! They are scheduled to start shipping from Princeton Tec in April 2013.
